As the world is trying to adapt to the new normal, the Indian wedding scene is also witnessing some fresh developments. To begin with, big fat weddings have been toned down to intimate gatherings with only 50 guests allowed. Wedding guests are now welcomed with sanitizers and designer face masks are the newest addition to wedding accessories. And let’s not forget how wedding revelries have also gone digital. Several couples have said ‘I do’ on video calls during the pandemic, while many others have attended wedding functions on Zoom calls. And now, it is lehenga shopping which has got a digital makeover in the time of coronavirus. Yes, you read that right.
In order to get accustomed to the new normal, Indian fashion designers have introduced virtual bridal consultancy services. Instead of visiting the store, brides-to-be and their entourage can shop the lehenga of their dreams from the comfort of their home. And it is not merely checking out lehengas on a website and seeing their pictures. A team of people takes you through the entire store and show you ensembles of your choice. In many cases, the designers are also part of the virtual consultancy to help bring the wedding ensemble to life.
Famous bridalwear designers like Manish Malhotra, Rimple & Harpreet and Jade by Monica and Karishma have started providing such services. Manish Malhotra held an online exclusive preview of his collection for 30 brides in association with a wedding portal.Photo credit: Jade by Monica and Karishma
Speaking about the virtual bridal consultancy service, designer Monica Shah of the label Jade by Monica and Karishma said, “We’re entering a new era of digital living. The beauty of ecommerce is that it breaks geographical barriers and brings you closer to your audience across the country and globe. We are very excited to launch bespoke consultancy services to couture lovers, wherever in the world they may be. That keeps intimacy and personalisation alive, albeit in the virtual format.”
To avail the virtual consultancy services for lehenga shopping, the brides-to-be are first supposed to fill up an online registration form. The time and date are then decided mutually. The registration process, however, may vary from designer to designer.
